Personal Coaching from George Elliott

Whether you've never fired a shot or you're chasing a higher break — George's patient, methodical teaching style gets results.

George has been shooting since the age of five, tutored on these same Fife hillsides by his father. In over two decades as a professional shooting instructor, he has taught complete beginners, coached competitive shots, and helped experienced guns break through performance plateaus that had held them back for years.

His approach is direct and practical — he diagnoses what's happening quickly, explains it clearly, and gives you the tools to replicate the improvement yourself. No jargon. No unnecessary complexity. Just the adjustments that make a difference.

Who George Works With

First-time shooting lesson

Complete Beginners

No experience whatsoever? Good. George is experienced at starting people from scratch — covering safe gun handling, mount, stance, and the basics of lead before you ever see a moving target. You'll leave your first lesson hitting clays consistently.

Intermediate clay shooter

Intermediate Shots

You can hit a clay, but you're inconsistent — or there's a particular presentation that always causes problems. George will quickly identify what's going wrong and give you practical corrections that stick.

Advanced coaching at Birkhill

Advanced & Competitive

High-level shooting requires refinement at a detail level that most instructors miss. George's gamekeeper background means he understands how targets behave in real terrain — which translates directly to performance on driven days and in competition.

What to Expect

Lessons take place on the Birkhill Castle Estate — not a flat, featureless range, but real terrain with real topography. George uses the estate's varied ground to present targets in ways that genuinely prepare you for shooting in the field.

Sessions are typically two hours, one-to-one, with all guns and ammunition supplied. George will usually film short clips during the session so you can see exactly what's happening — an insight that makes the coaching far more effective.

Lessons can be booked as one-off sessions or as a structured programme. George can discuss what's likely to be most effective for your situation when you make an enquiry.

George's Background

Acclaimed over twenty years as one of Scotland's most respected gamekeepers and shooting instructors, George Elliott has been profiled in shooting journals and featured in internationally distributed films — including a collaboration with the Kirby Allison channel, whose audience runs to nearly a million subscribers.

He founded Elliott Clays at Birkhill Castle Estate in 2019 to bring the driven-day experience to a wider audience. As an instructor, his calm, observational approach comes from decades of watching how different people learn — and from the patience that comes with teaching his own son the way his father taught him.
